Finishes:

Again, following the Craftsman ideal of celebrating the natural beauty of wood, our first choice in finish is Danish oil and paste wax. We typically do not use stains on our furniture, however we do offer a darker oak finish which is achieved through a natural process called fuming. A fumed oak finish is obtained by tenting completed pieces of furniture in plastic and exposing them to ammonia fumes overnight. It is not the best smelling technique in the world, but it works wonderfully (don't worry, our shop smells - not our furniture).

While we use a hand rubbed wax finish on most of our furniture, we have found that hand rubbed polyurethane is a more convenient and durable finish for tables and desks. Our poly finish does not look discernibly different from multiple coats of hand rubbed wax.

Our wood and finishing options include:

Quarter-sawn White Oak
fumed, oiled and waxed
Quarter-sawn White Oak
oiled and waxed
Cherry
oiled and waxed*
Maple
oiled and waxed
Walnut
oiled and waxed
*note: Oiled cherry will darken over time to a rich deep patina - with cherry, as with many things, patience is a virtue.
